Chinatown

Today, we went toChina town and ate dim sum.Dim Sum tasted a lot different than Hong Kong's.

We went on a White Jade Tiger walking tour and got to learn all about the role Chinese people, mostly from Hong Kong, played in the building of Canada’s National Railway and the City of Victoria. It was very interesting to learn about Chinese-Canadian history. I liked China town more than I thought I would. Our guide taught us how to play Fan Tan – a gambling game, because in the book we read, ‘White Jade Tiger’, the main character, Jasmine meets Keung in a Fan Tan gambling den. We actually got to walk down Fan Tan alley. It is very narrow!

Ziplining in a Temperate Rainforest

We went ziplining today. At the beginning, I was quite nervous, because I thought it would be quite dangerous. However, I found out that it is very safe.  I couldn’t imagine myself, so high up in a forest, but when I was, it felt like I was a bird, flying overhead and looking down into the forest – I loved that!!!
I would recommend that everyone try ziplining.  What makes it so much fun is that you don’t travel so fast that you can’t enjoy the ride. I was so glad that I challenged myself to do this sport. I can’t wait to do it again someday! I hope you do it too!

Shopping at Costco

I had heard about Costco in Hong Kong and people tend to say that the products are huge. However, since we do not have a Costco in Hong Kong, I had never been to one – until of course, Canada.  I was completely amazed by the size of the store and the size of the items. It was a lot cheaper as well. It even has brand names in large quantities. I bought some facial cream. It was much less expensive than in Hong Kong.

B.C. Museum

Today, we went to the BC Museum and saw many things, and there were tons of histories about the First Nations people of Canada. I’ve posted some pictures of the First Nations totems because I found them very interesting and beautiful at the same time. There was also a visiting Egyptian Pharaoh exhibit.

This was very interesting because I played a lead role in our school’s musical ‘Egypt Express’ last year, so it was neat to see this exhibit. I also liked the climate change section, because it showed lots of modern environmental problems, which I think are very useful to learn more about, since these are problems which we must solve in this century.

Sooke Temperate Rainforest Tour

Ah! I was so happy that after ziplining, we got to go on this hiking tour. But compared to our Mt Doug hike, today’s hike was much easier! It felt like I was in a wonderland. The views were beautiful, and we had three guides, who helped us learn about temperate rainforests and biodiversity. Sometimes, we could see little animals, like squirrels, and we could hear song birds singing in the trees.

We also saw an otter, and we got to look at an ancient civilization’s rock art.  You will never believe what happened at the end of our tour… we came upon a meadow of daisies. Yes, daisies, just like my name. It was so beautiful. When you looked across the meadow, there was an opening between the trees, which gave us a great daisy-ocean view! I’ve never seen anything so beautiful before in my life! This was even more special for me, because if you don’t know, my English name is Daisy! So, for me, this meadow is mine!

Whale Watching

We were so excited as we were able to go to whale watching by a boat! Look! Someone took a nice picture for me! Actually, I was waiting whales. The tour guide taught us l lot of things about whales!

I was surprised by how long it took to find the whales, and that there were environmental regulations that kept us from getting too close to the whales. The regulations are to help the whales, because boat noise creates problems for them as they cannot communicate with each other, when the boats get too close. I think that it is good that Canada protects its whales. They are so special.

On The Ferry To Victoria

This photo was taken when we were on the ferry and
we were going to Ms. Smith's home! We couldn't wait to see how beautiful her home was!
